Our Story

A family farm, worked the way it always has been.

Akal means earth. Our fields sit a short drive inland from Essaouira, in Douar Ait Elouafi, where Atlantic light softens the afternoon and the soil still remembers generations of Berber farming knowledge.

We grow without chemicals — composting, rotating, planting for the season rather than the calendar. Permaculture here is not a label; it is simply the way the land is kept alive from one harvest to the next.

What we grow, we cook. What we cook, we share around one long table in the shade of the trees, with whoever happens to be visiting that day.

Farm to Table

Lunch is whatever came out of the ground this morning.

Our table d'hôte is a seasonal set menu, written after the morning harvest and served outdoors among the fields. Vegetables, herbs, honey and olive oil come from a few hundred metres away; the rest comes from neighbours we know by name.

It suits unhurried afternoons and small groups. We welcome parties of eight or more by reservation, and smaller tables when the kitchen allows.
